• Dear Community,

I’m trying to solve what seems like the most obvious problem in the (WordPress) world: Subscribe to Comments.

After trying many of the standalone version and having no success and even having a developer look into the issue, I have still have not found a solution.

Using native comments or third party plugins both have their advantages and disadvantages, but the ability to get a notification when someone leaves a comment on a blog that you left a comment on has to rank as one of the BASIC functions of a commenting system, no?

So, I hand over this issue to the community. Has anyone using MU (3.5.1) solved this issue? And to be specific, all I would like to have is a checkbox integrated in the comment form that allows the commenter to get email updates when people either a) reply to their comment or b) when a new comment is made to the post.

I’ve got both fingers and toes crossed that someone already has a solution.

Thanks in advance for any plugin tips or suggestions.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

I just use Jetpack for it. Works like a champ on Multisite.

    Thanks for the tip, Mika.

I do not want to add all the features from Jetpack, and I’ve recently read some reviews that weren’t so favourable. Still looking for a solution.

Based on the spec you provided, Jetpack certainly would work, and you can turn off what you don’t want, and part of the reason Jetpack works is they don’t hit API limits like other plugins will. By passing data via .com, they’re protected from limits. But I understand people don’t like passing data via .com, and that’s totally understandable. You still have to set things up per site.

That said, what plugins DID you try already? If you’ve done some work already, save us some time and effort, eh?

I’ve used Subscribe2 and that worked fine, and Subscribe To Comments Reloaded.
