Dashboard is less useful now

  • I don’t know where else to put this feature request so here it is:
    As of 0.9.2.7 the W3TC Dashboard is suboptimal for me and probably 95% of users. There’s New Relic that can’t be used on shared hosting and hogs a good bit of space, Spread the News (can’t be turned off), a couple of feed grabbers (Forum, News) that should be made optional for low-powered servers like mine, and the redundant Support form (there’s a bright red Support link at left). Being a fiend for performance I edited Plugins.php to comment out the offending widgets. Then I realized the Dashboard could be incredibly useful, and Frederick clearly made an effort to fill it with good stuff but probably doesn’t know things like New Relic can’t be used by most of us.

    So I propose to everyone:
    Let’s come up with some good uses for this space! A widget could take easily-obtained numbers, eg top ten list of pages with many db queries, average size of page, et c.. What else would be useful in a couple of widget areas?

    I already wrote right on the dashboard page what the intent is and moved elements that were on the WP dashboard (news, forum posts, google page speed widget) into the performance dashboard to clean things up. If you read the copy on the dashboard it lists the other modules that will be added, not every single module is going to work on every host, the same way that some features in W3TC cannot, should not and optionally won’t be used on every site. The plugin is not in final release, so if you have suggestions please do not use the forum, suggest them through the suggestion form so I can actually find them and talk to people in a sustainable manner.
