Entire page dims when viewing image

(Unfortunately, this isn’t my own WP site, so I’m not sure which version theyr’e using.)
Whenever I click on an image, the image will pop up to full size, but the background dimming overlays the entire page (including the image). This happens on both of my broswers: IE 8 and Google Chrome 23.0.1271.64 on Windows 7 Enterprise. (This is my work computer, if you couldn’t tell. ??
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
