permalink not working after post delete

  • I am pretty new to this and a php idiot ( but the person helping me with this is very good with it , so if this is a technical type response, that is okay!). I deleted a post and ever since then, all the permalinks after the post previous to the deleted one are not working properly. They are linking to posts other than the post that they should be.

    Am I phrasing my question too stupidly?? Is there nobody who has any ideas on this out there?
    If someone know even that there is no fix for this, or that I have just done something incredibly stupid, please let me know. Thanks, DG
