Is there a list of the correct permissions for all WP files somewhere on the Codex? I couldn’t find anything.

My blog works fine but I don’t have full knowledge of permissions settings and I want to make sure I haven’t got any potential security issues.

  • 755 Directories
    644 Files
666 for files in the theme directory IF you are going to use the WP editor.

Plugins may alter things but their docs should say what and why.

Thanks for prompt reply. I guess I should add this to the Codex.

What about the /wp-content/uploads directory? 666 I assume.

I wrote something for this on Codex ages ago I think.

666 won’t work for a directory. If it needs to be writable and WP cannot create it by itself, try 755.
If that fails and you need to use 777 then yes, that is a risk. ANY folder that is 777 has a higher risk.

    Better hosts allow 755

Glad I asked. Had it on 777 but 755 works for me. Thanks again.

Couldn’t find anything on the Codex. Does the search function suck or is it just me? Not sure where to add it to in any case.
