I am attempting to follow the steps…

I just edited the wp-configure.php file and uploaded the entire wordpress file onto my ftp. I went to https://”mydomain”.com/wp-admin/install.php and i got a message showing my wordpress.com blog with “Hi there you seem to be lost. It looks like nothing was found at this location. Perhaps it was there but now it’s gone. Maybe try one of the links below or a search?”

    What did I do wrong?
How do I get my site to transfer to www.remarpro.com successfully? Then also, how do I get the www.remarpro.com user interface that looks like the wordpress.com one?

    I am beyond confused.
This is not easy. It should be.

    I just want to:

1- have my wordpress.com blog now be www.remarpro.com (I have hosting now with DreamHost, but have no idea what im doing!)
2- be able to use www.remarpro.com through the easy to use interface that looks just like the one i used in wordpress.com (im comfortable with that, know where everything is, how to post etc)
3- be able to upload the theme i purchased outside of wordpress, and apply it to my blog/domain

Help! How do I do these things?

First you need to install wordpress on your hosting account, which is what you seem to have the issue with. What you should do is delete everything you’ve done on your hosting account – the files, the database and use Dreamhost’s one click wordpress installation: https://wiki.dreamhost.com/WordPress#One-Click

Then export your wordpress.com and then go to your new website and use the import feature to put all your content into it. Tools > Import and Tools > Export.

If that doesn’t work out, then you could try: https://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/

also, to upload the theme you’ve purchased, after you have your installation going and your content in, then just go to Appearance > Themes and click the tab for install themes. Then click the upload link and upload the zip file with your theme in it.

Melissa, there are two separate steps to doing this.

    1) Buy hosting (which you did! Hi, welcome to DreamHost!)

    2) Tell your domain to point to your new host.

Until you do step 2, you can’t see your website on our servers. However! We do have a way for you to install WP with a temporary URL.

Do you want to export all of your content from the .com site to your new site on DreamHost or are you starting over? I only ask because I don’t want to swamp you with directions you don’t need ??

    Hi Mike,

So I’m having the EXACT same issue as Melissa. I already purchased hosting through bluehost, used the one click wp installation and now need to transfer my site from wordpress.com to www.remarpro.com. I don’t need to export any content, I’m just starting over. How do I proceed?

    Any help is much appreciated!

@stylemesold: As per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic. Posting in an existing topic prevents us from being able to track issues by topic. Added to which, your problem – despite any similarity in symptoms – is likely to be completely different.

And, incidentally it’s Mika – not Mike (different gender). ??

Apologies to Mika E — looks like I read that a little too fast. Creating a new topic now. Thanks!

(Of course the funniest part is that Mika translates to Mike…)

I already purchased hosting through bluehost,

I can’t give you Bluehost specific directions, I don’t work for ’em. In general you just point your domain to the nameservers of your host.
