Failed to GeoCode – no received status

  • I just downloaded this plugin, and am trying to add locations to my list. I added a generic landmark to see if it work, and I get the “failed to geocode” but no returned status? If you click on the actual request, Google says it’s OK/successful.

    Address 233 S Wacker Dr, , Chicago, IL 60606, USA failed to geocode.

Received status .

    Am using the Google API 3, and have my request at 5 currently (I’ve moved between 1-10 to see if maybe that was it). It’s a fresh gmail account and have only 5 requests – the ones I made with the plugin.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    That address works fine on my dev system.

    Remove your Google Maps API key. It is not necessary 99% of the time.

    I removed the apps key, still the same issue.

    However, the location does now show up on the map. I’ve done subsequent locations that don’t. Very strange.

    Are you on a shared hosting server or “in the cloud”? Both use shared IP addresses and Google tracks interaction on a per-IP basis. If anyone else on the same IP assignment hits them enough times you won’t be able to get geocoding requests to go through as the IP address quota has already been hit for that 24 hour cycle.
