• Good Afternoon –

I’ve had a WordPress site for a few months now, but just today really started doing anything with it. I currently use the theme “Twenty Eleven” which I picked out of a few random ones.

This theme (as well as all of the others I’ve seen) display all blog titles and entire post directly on the homepage. For the site I’m trying to create, I don’t want all of this detail shown on the homepage, but rather a list of basic categories and a few other things.

Past the homepage, I’m looking for the sterotypical forum layout which provides titles and a bit of the text or subtitle, but that’s it. A good example is TechNet’s forums here.

I’ve messed around with the configuration, but can’t get anything close to what I want.

To resolve this, do I need to select a different theme, configuration settings, widgets, or all 3? If theme / widget, do you have any suggestions?

    Thanks!

  • One of the first things you can do is go to Settings->Reading and change to a static Front Page and select the page you would like to show. Then you can choose which page you would like the posts to display on.

Past that, it sounds like you might want a different theme, unless you tweak Twenty Eleven to get more of a forum feel (possibly achieved through bbPress.

    Hope this helps.
