WordPress wanted to update the software, it advised that it would take 90 seconds, after nearly half an hour nothing had happened so I came out and retried and the whole website has dissapeared leaving a code 500 message on the domain.

My last back up was early december which I am currently trying to restore

Does wordpress keep a back up of the site from earlier today or over the last week.

Im tearing my hair out ive done a lot of blogging of my work over the past month and made a lot of changes that havnt been saved since Decembers back up.

Why did nothing happen for half an hour and what can I do about this, if anyone can advise it would be much appreciated

  • Are you able to access phpMyAdmin? If you can, you can export the database and see if the changes that you’ve made since December is there.

how abouts do i do this. im currently uploading the december back up. will it interfere with anything. is it just like doing the normal download of the sql file ?

what does the php part back up

phpMyAdmin would give you access to the website database. If you are uploading the December backup already then it’s currently writing over the existing database.

ok thanks, so i may of saved something of the original site before the update corrupted ?

once the back up is completed, how do I upload the database export i have just taken ? is it through filezilla ? if yes wherabouts do i need to upload it to ?

Also in the phpMyAdmin. In the Import tab, you can upload the sql file.

Just wanted to say a huge thanks to my fab web hosting company LCN for restoring my site to its original state following yesterdays temporary disaster.

It was certainly a tough lesson to learn …and the morale of the story is never ever refresh or leave the page when wordpress is updating its software.

Thanks to everyone on the various threads who offered advice and to LCN once again for superb customer service as always ??
