• Hi there,
Im hoping someone can help me. I have set up numerous websites through wordpress and have never come across this issue before.
On the Manage Themes page, I have no option to upload a theme or delete a theme. This seemd to be fine yesterday as I upload a theme perfectly. Today these options have disappeared.

    Any ideas?

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress 3.4.2. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    And upgrade WordPress asap.

I logged out and back in and the old menu is back, so I was able to upload a theme…. The only difference I noticed is that it says I am logged in under ‘Network Admin’. When I install a theme it only gives me the option to “Network Enable”?

This ring any bells with you?

Yes – you’re using a multisite install and you need to make the theme available to all sub-sites.

    Thanks Esmi!
This is the first time I have encountered this, could you explain what that means and how I might make the theme available to sub-sites?

I am now getting this when I click on the home page!:
    Error establishing a database connection

    And this in the dashboard:
    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at mysql4.mylogin.ie. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

Have you reviewed create a network?

No, Im not sure what that means. I have just rad through the link you sent but am still trying to “read between the lines” as I really dont understand what the “Create a Network” function would be for?
Does this effect how I connect to the site?
I seem to get this error message intermittently?
Is it better NOT to Create A Network ?

Put it this way – are you trying to create a single site? Or do you want to let others run a whole stack of sites under a single domain name?

    Is this a fresh install?

    (@jennyfogarty)

Just one single site under one single domain name.

    Fresh install too.

OK – Scrap that install and empty the database. Then re-install WordPress but, this time, do not activate multisite via the wp-config.php file. In fact, don’t create a wp-config.php file at all. WordPress can create it for you during the install process.

Tanks a million Esmi, I have instructed the client to re-install wordpress with your instructions.
    Thanks again.

    No problem ??
