• Hi! As yesterday i already said few ays ago…and as somebody else already said too….my site looks ok everywhere including all posts. However, on pages, the sidebar flips down below or under the content. Even without any page-content the sidebar moves! And i have literally tried every page template possible including the index template.
Its like the page functions somehow disturbs the layout , becuse, as I said, even without any content at all the sidebar moves, sometimes cousing problems also with the headpicture in explorer.
The second problem is related to the pages…When i create a new page, i write the text i want to see on it and than i save it.The problem is that in the blog i can see the link button to my page, but when i clikc on it nothing is happening and i can’t see the content of my page
And another thing is that when i choose a category is not simply showing the posts of that category but keep showing all the posts…
    Any info about it?!
    the blog is this…

    Thank you!

  • I have had this problem myself, usually came down to either the sidebar or the content being too wide. In terms of fixing this though, you can either scoure the code or you may be worth just re-uploading kubrick and making the changes you have made again. I mean all you’ve done is change the header so it shouldn’t take long to do it that way and you shouldn’t have any problems.

You have about 13 errors just on your front page, where the sidebar appears at the bottom in Firefox 1.5 for me. Fix all of those, and that may correct most of the issues, I’m guessing the problem is from the unclosed tags.

The W3C validator is a very handy tool, located at: https://validator.w3c.org. If you’re still have problems after you’ve fixed your tags, make sure you post back here.

    Cheers,
    Michael.

Please don’t post titles like this.

As a really smart person has already said, “it’s only a blog”.

    Dear miklb,
What did you aspect to find in this support forum?!Specially after days and days in front of problems that we can’t solve? I’m sorry for the title but start to be quite tought here….and the fact that i’m not the only one in these conditions should makes you think….anyway i will not write mine or my colleagues/friends opinions about wordpress….even if is just a blog………
I just hope to find a solution to these problems….

miklb is right, this is hardly a catastrophic problem, the problem is simply as I already stated above – your html is a mess!

This is not an error with WordPress or a database or anything that anyone besides YOU can fix. This problem of yours has been created by YOU, either through laziness or oversight or inexperience, but nonetheless, it is very simple to fix, as I’ve already stated!

An expectation for anyone who wishes to have a webpage is that they have some grasp of how they work. Fix your errors, ALL of them and keep revalidating it until there are none. If that doesn’t fix it, I suggest you dig through the teme files and see if there is something wrong there. If you know nothing about HML or CSS, I suggest that you look up and read some tutorials on it.

It is unfair to people who have disasterous problems with their blogs and it is unfair to the VOLUNTEERS who answer these questions to be expected to teach you the most basic concept and things that common sense (which we all know is not common at all) should dictate.

The default theme – which you are using – has been used on thousands of blogs without a problem.
In IE and Firefox and Opera two things show up:

1 – Character encoding. IE shows strange characters and Opera shows smaller text. there is no consistency.

2 – All three have a faulty sidebar. but it’s not the sidebar – it’s the whole page structure. It has been changed by someone – and that is the root of the problem.

I have an identical problem on https://www.robbaker.org/

I have made no changes to the default theme or the code. In Firefox everything looks great, in IE the sidebar has been displaced to the bottom of the page. The code was marked as xhtml compliant.

WordPress is not a bug-free program. (And neither is IE). If I find a solution, I’ll try to post it here.

    Cheers, Reggie

    Dear Michael Niziol,

“This problem of yours has been created by YOU”…..by me?????? First of all how YOU are!?!…second, you don’t even know with HOW you are talking with?!……We are simply here to find a solution for a problem, as many many many other people are doing…..sorry if after days of work we still didn’t find a solution…..

“This is not an error with WordPress or a database or anything that anyone besides YOU can fix”?…….??????I mean….are you serious? So..let me understand…wordpress released something than seams not working (no just from my point of view…)and i have to fix it????

In a way you seam to be so professional indicating me to use that W3C validator…but on the other you seam to have still some problems to fix some simply links…like the one before (https://validator.w3c.org) that is not working…If you know nothing about it, I suggest that you look up and read some tutorials on it.
As you can see aslo a “BIG EXPERT” like you seams to have still some problems with the most basic concepts and things that common sense SHOULD dictate…….Anyway good luck for your “liberal ideas” and your future……….

Please..just forgive me and all the others common blog users that, after your precious advices, STILL can’t solve their problems with their blogs………..

Anyway, a big honest THANK YOU to all the people of the support staff that understand the problems and that are giving to all of us a good help….sorry again for the title but i’m sure you understud the situation….

I had a similiar problem with a modified theme; suddenly the sidebar moved far to the bottom and wouldn’t come up no matter how much I coaxed it.

Turned out to be an error in the CSS … have you changed any of that?

I couldn’t figure out what was wrong by looking at it, so I created a new div class in the .css file and rebuilt my CSS rules and the problem didn’t return.

I was thinking of CSS too…You think that you can put here any file you modified so we can download it an that update it on our servers?! Than you for your help thornomad!
    Andrea

My CSS file is nothing like the default CSS file that comes with wordpress; if you installed it, you would also need all the template files that go with it.

Have you modified your CSS file at all, in anyway ? If so, consider downloading and unpacking the wordpress installation, navigating to the default theme directory, and overwriting your current .css file with the one straight from the package. I would make a backup (or move) the file you have now in case you want to implement any of the changes you have.

    (@andreavascellari)

Yes i have try to modify the CSS but without big results…You are right also about the template files that go with…Do you think that i can download new theme files some were? or can you make them available here? Thank you very much for you help!
    Andrea

    Hi andreavascellari

It looks like part of your problem is with IE not correctly dealing with a <span lang=”EN-GB” style=”font-family: Wingdings” /> Hence, in IE you have lots of text in a strange font, but it is quite legible in Firefox.

I suspect you are copying text from Word and placing it into the Post. When you use the copy in Word, it also includes lots of formating – useful for putting in other documents, but not onto the web. I suggest you save as a .txt file and then use Notepad or a text editor to select and copy your text.

Haven’t discovered the problem with the sidebar.
