• I have a site at /location/siteA and copied it to the root at /location. I would like both the /location/siteA original and the copied-to /location to both work.

The backup plugin at /location seems to have the same settings as /location/siteA. Indeed, if I deactivate the plugin at /location/siteA, I also deactivate it at /location. This makes sense somewhat as they have the same key.

Would the ideal behavior be for me to deactivate and uninstall in both places, then reinstall/configure in both places?

Based on my experiences, wordpress sites can’t simply copy paste to new location. It will run, but usually buggy. I ever have such nightmare.

If you want to move or duplicate a site, I suggest you to use Duplicator plugin.
