fixing automatic insertion of & tags into post

Hey Everyone,

I have a 100% customized theme that stripped basically everything out.

I am having problem with WP inserting random <p> &
tags.

To fix this, I read you should:

In includes/functions change $br = 1 to $br = 0 in the autop function.

How do I also remove the random <p> tags inserted into my post?
