Can access sub-domain but not network admin
-
Before getting into the problem I’m having, the most important part was that previously both the primary site and the secondary site (sub-domain site) were working perfectly. I was able to log into cpanel/ftp and https://www.primary.com/wp-admin without any difficulty. Once in wordpress, I was able to log into both the network admin and secondary site’s dashboard.
The problem:
I contacted the company of the theme I’ve been working with because the images were not loading on my secondary site. They requested access to the admin url, user and password. I created a new user with admin privaleges, and gave them the password and the url
https://www.secondarycom/wp-admin.
(I thought I checked last night that it worked, but now I’m not so sure)
They responded that they were unable to login. So when I tested the user name and password I gave them, I get a screen that says I do not have “privileges on this site”.
If I use the user name and the password that I would have used for the primary site, I am able to log into the dashboard of the secondary site.
When I am at the dashboard for the secondary site, I am unable to go to the dashboard of the primary site or select network admin. When I click on either the primary site dashboard or the network admin, I get a message:
“Server not found”
“Firefox can’t find the server at primary.com”
(Not sure if the rest of this helps but I’ll put it in just in case)
I can successfully use the following command from a terminal
ping https://www.secondary.com
but it fails with
giving the error message:
“ping: unknown host https://www.primary.com”
When I attempt to ftp into my server I have to do it from the secondary site now instead of the primary, using the same user name and password as I did when I went through the primary site.
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for looking at this.
