• Hi,

I have upgraded to the latest version of WP and also swapped domains and hosts at the same time. Bit much at once i know.

All seemed to go fine and everything was working but last night i went to make a post and all went fine and i pressed publish and at the top it said the post has been created and the option to view the site.

So I goto the site and refresh it and the post isnt there. I was actually posting the Scotland Vs Wales Rugby result and thought it may have been a problem with the subject as i had just copy and pasted the score from another web page but i then went back and tried to post it again changing the subject and it still didnt post.

I have tried a few times to post test posts but with no luck. I have tried changing the permalink structure and updating it but that didnt work either.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

    The website addy is https://www.heebeegeebees.co.uk

Are you able to check the DB to see if the new records are being created??

    Hi Cheese,

    Thanks for replying ??

I did a select * from wp_posts and the last post that is showing is the one showing on the site so to answer your question no it isnt adding it to the db.

There is alot of this at the end of the dysplay after running select * from wp_posts

    ——–+———————+———————+—————- ——————————————————————————– ———————————————————————-

Not sure what this actually is and wither or not it should be there or not.

I must admit I dont have alot of knowlage about MySQL but I know the basics so if im doing this wrong them please let me know ??

Could it be a permissions problem from moving hosts?

    Thanks for your help

It sounds like it could be something like a permissions issue, though I would have thought WP should return an error if it can’t write to the DB…
It would be worth double checking that the username in your config file does have write permissions on the DB though…

I have checked the MySQL DB cheese and I have full write access to it. The thing is I can change any of my settings and save them and they save fine so this would give me the impression that I am able to write to the DB.

Is there any specific permissions that have to be set to make posts?

Here are my permissions that I have set at the moment incase this helps.

I’m guessing that this doesnt look right. I had a look at my old setup on this box and the permissions are very different with it saying 1025 for all the files and folders instead of root like this.

Is there a list of permission settings for the files and folders on the wordpress site? I had a look and cant find anything.

I’m not 100% on the usage of chown and chmod so any tips on what I should be doing would be great.

Again thanks for your help with this Cheese, I havent managed to update my site in a while and its really anoying me.

OK a little update here for you.

I have tried doing a chown -R apache:apache * in the root of my site to try and set the permissions for all files and folders.

Still doesnt work though. Also noticed that if i click on ‘Save and continue editing’ it clears the form of everything i have typed so it would seem that its not storing the information.

I’m positive that this is a permisions problem but i would have thought that WordPress would have complained about this if that was the case.

    Thread Starter paganpoison

    (@paganpoison)

I think that I may have found the problem.

Looking in ‘manage’ I noticed the last post I made after changing servers and domains has an ‘ID’ of 0 when the one before this is 26.

So I am guessing when i try to make a new post it is trying to write the post with an ‘ID’ of 1 which is already there so wont over write it.

The only problem I have is understanding why it would have reset and how to sort it.

    Any ideas?

Ok I deceided to bite the bullet and drop the database. I found a pretty recent backup of the old database and imported it into a new database and it seems to work fine.

    Thanks for your help Cheese

    Look I have posts again ?? https://www.heebeegeebees.co.uk

All I have to do now is go and add all the stuff back in that i had before. grr

    Thread Starter paganpoison

    (@paganpoison)

OK I think i’m going to go insane.

After reimporting the db it let me post one more thread but it posted it with an ID of 0 again which in turn wont let me post anymore posts.

So i’m back to were we started again.

Does anyone know a work around for this? Mabey by using MySQL to change the ID’s of the current posts without wrecking my blog?

    Thread Starter paganpoison

    (@paganpoison)

Anyone? I everytime I try to make a post to my site https://www.heebeegeebees.co.uk it trys to make a post but wont as its trying to post with a post ID of 1 which is already in use by another previous post. Is there way to make the posts random or make them start at a higher number so they dont conflict with my current posts?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated asd this is driving me insane and I havent been able to post to my blog in weeks.

    Thanks in advance

I take it that this is unresolvable?

What do I have to do? change to a different blog or delete my entire blog to get it working?

As I have said before if anyone has had a similar problem and can help please post a reply.
