Newbie- why can't I see custom gallery options?

Hello — seems like such a dumb problem but… here we are! I’m trying to create a custom gallery. Following instructions in codex.wordpress.com. Problem is after I select the images and create gallery, I don’t get the types for gallery options.

ALSO, when I go to Media settings in dashboard, also doesn’t show any gallery options there.

I have deleted NextGEN Gallery to make sure there’s no conflict. Help! Thanks!
