Edit pages with notepad?
-
I would like to edit my pages with notepad instead of the default html source editor. Can this be done by changing a few lines of code? Or with some sort of plugin?
I turned the rich editor off.
When I go in to manage pages, edit and click on the html button, I noticed that RSS feed and HTML code had been changed automatically. I have to click “Wrap” every time to see the code and all of the spaces between lines that I included for readability are gone.
This does not happen in notepad, so why can’t I use it to change the source of my pages?
Example: some RSS addresses contain an ampersand. When I reopen the html with the provided button, I see
ampersandamp;amp;amp;amp;amp;
or something of that nature (Spelled out the word ampersand instead of using one). Each time I edit the page I must delete all of the extra code to get the original RSS I pasted in to get it to work, and must change the links too. Just changing the ampersand to ampersandamp; is not enough. I have also tried %26 and other bits seen on other sites, nothing works.
Also, I was trying to transfer code directly from my previous website which was written using notepad. It was changed after I pasted and saved it in the html source editor and saved the page. Some normal a href links were changed. That shouldn’t happen with a good html source editor.
Also, It is no longer possible to have hidden text comments, I use them to guide me in finding the different segments of code that have different functions. That and the vanishing of the lines between code bits makes it difficult to navigate the source code. Now I can’t tell content from code anymore.
Can the pop-up window html source editor provided with the pages be changed to use notepad as a default instead? What would the code for that be and where should it be inserted?
