• Hi all,
I realise the code is GPL, so I obviously can do this, but I want to know if it’ll upset anyone. Basically I want to have as few images as possible on my site and to continue to have the site name run throughout the Admin pages so that users don’t think they’ve got lost. I have replaced the WordPress blue/black PNG files with a CSS version, and moved the location of it to the top right, with my site name on the top left.
Is this ok ? At no point do I claim ownership of the code, the site design pages talk about WordPress, and all the links back to www.remarpro.com from my version of the ‘logo’ have been left intact, but because the layout is now pure text with CSS tweaks, it’s not identical to the image file. I have worked for one company in the past where modifying the (exactly) specified Pantone shade on a Press pack logo was enough to get a stiff legal letter sent to the person in question, hence my caution…
Thanks in advance for any opinions,

    ian.

  • Since there have been several previous threads where the devs have *encouraged* people to design their own wp-admin.css, I wouldn’t think that you’d have a problem. And it’s GPL’ed, technically meaning you could make your tweaks and repackage them as, say, Minimal’s WP, all perfectly legal.
I for one would be interested in seeing your image-less layout. ??

Cool. I had hoped as much.
As for the CSS version – I’ll tidy it up and post a link to it. As it’s non-trivial (for people who don’t mess with a text editor ?? to change all the times it’s used (I changed both CSS and PHP), I’ll simply create a blank page that shows the original and my version. It’d be handy to get different browser feedback too, as I tend to use Safari and Mozilla and never quite get around to the rest…
    Thanks,

Right, here’s my example page, so feel free to comment on every aspect of it: I’m a CSS newbie who has half a clue, which is the most dangerous sort when it comes to proper site design…

Actually, there is a CSS Style Competition going on right now – put in an entry!

Heh ?? Yeah, I saw that blog entry go up, but I have too much to do on my own site (I’m learning as I go): I’d never make the deadline !
