Using the Media Manger from a plugin

I love the new 3.5 media manager and would really like to use it in a plugin I’d written. Basically, it would be wonderful to be able to call it and have it return a list of media id’s the user selected.

This would not actually be 3.5-specific, but the new media manager is so nice that it inspired me to look around. I see alternate media pickers out there, but I could not dig up help on hooking into the built in media manger. Right now the media manager allows users to: Insert Media, Create Gallery, and Set Featured Image. Is there a way to add a new option to this list?

Any pointers would be welcome.
