Warnings after upgrade of Twenty Eleven theme to 1.5

    Using Wordfence 3.4.5

    After upgrade to the Twenty Eleven 1.5 theme, I get the following warnings for several files:
    – This WordPress core file has been modified and differs from the original file distributed with this version of WordPress.

    Will you update your detection over time, or will I have to solve this myself by ignoring the change?

  • Is the update an official update? When looking at the repository, WordPress still says the latest version is 1.4.

    Yep, same thing happened to me. I saw the WP alerts that TwentyTen and TwentyEleven needed updating.

    I don’t use those themes, but thought I’d update ‘everything’ (a Wordfence update was due roughly around the same time).

    Got the alert a couple hours ago (even though I updated everything about 12 hours ago).

    Couple Examples:

    * WordPress core file modified: wp-content/themes/twentyeleven/functions.php

    * WordPress core file modified: wp-content/themes/twentyten/functions.php

    Yep, official update (for TwentyEleven and TwentyTen).

    Very strange. Am considering just deleting those two themes (since I don’t use them) — but it’s always good to have something in there other than a custom theme (for testing purposes I guess). Not sure if that’s a silly habit of mine, or good-practice in WP. (I know in Joomla we’d rarely ever delete the default themes Beez and so on — cause they get used for late-night live testing when the ‘main’ custom theme has issues).

    Just confirming I am now getting multiple emails (from all my WordPress sites, most on totally separate servers/hosts) with the exact same issues being flagged by Wordfence, because I had updated the TwentyEleven and TwentyTen themes (though deactivated) on all accounts for good house-keeping with updates and so on.

    Annoying.

    I did a bit of searching and found that in the Changelog for Wordfence (back in version 3.2.4) it notes:

    Fixed issue that caused twentyten and twentyeleven themes to be shown as missing core files if they have been removed and theme scanning is enabled.

    Hmmm – looks like the latest Wordfence 3.4.2 has a new problem with those same two themes.

    Seeing same issue here. Would like some confirmation from WordFence authors that this is a problem. In the meantime I will just delete the theme.

    We fixed this issue with 3.5.1 which went out today. Please upgrade and if you can post a reply confirming it’s fixed for you I’d be most grateful.

    Hi Mmaunder,

    After updating to 3.5.1, I’m still getting “File Modified” warnings about the following plugins:

    1. Akismet — 4 different files
    2. WP Super Cache — readme.txt
    3. TimThumb Vulnerability Scanner — cg-tvs-timthumb-latest.txt

    I know I have the latest versions of the plugins, especially Akismet, as I have just updated it.

    By the way, I LOVE Wordfence and thank you so much for such wonderful security plugin! It’s on my must-have WP security checklist!
