some problem with html table codes

Hi I just add some basic html table code to a page editor

<table border=”1″><tbody><tr><td> a long text </td>
<td><img src=”img.url” alt=”company”></td></tr><tbody></table>

but why the texts always leaves a large space in the heading over it.
And the whole text and the img are not in a horizontal level at the top.

I even add width=”60%”, set the width and height of the img, but all seems does not work good.

Could someone help me, thanks
