• My hosting company has it included in a script using fantastico. Its a lot easier to install that way. But what are the benefits of self installation over using a script. Is there any issues that could come up as far as upgrading in the future goes?

  • more then likly fantastico hasn’t updated to the most recent version

There are many pros and cons in the topics around.
The only thing I’d warn you: if you plan to have WP in your root folder (i.e. accessible at yoursite.com) Fantastico seems to be able to install it only in a subfolder, so you’ll have to move it after that…
Other than that I guess it depends on your skills level and “control-freakness” ??
[I never let any automatic thing to take it over from me, but I might be obsessed about it…]

im the same way as moshu, but before i knew how to do installations and such i let fantastico do it, and i don’t like it lol….

I was wondering if stuff like fantastico keeps it constantly up to date with the latest version or not. I might just try to install it myself. Makes it easier in the long run to understand it I think.

Usually they are behind one version. Or two…

To do it manually isn’t as scary as it seems ??

I have found recently that Fantastico isn’t all that great with upgrading. You might as well do it manually.

Im trying to get it done manually, but Im getting some errors. One is that setting up some fake users for myself to test it. Im not getting any confirmation emails about registering. Another is if I choose that I forgot the password and enter my info, I click on retrieve password and I get “The e-mail could not be sent.
Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function…”. Im a total newbie on this so not quite sure what Im doing wrong.
