Moving WP blog to a new Server – Do I need to re-install or …

  • Hi Folks,

    I backed up a website and WP blog from a server and uploaded it to another. Can I recreate the DB in the new servr and have the blog up and running or do I need to do something else- or must I reinstall WP completely?

    Like to save the history or posts, ect. if possible.

    Much Appreciated.

  • Theoretically, it should work:
    – upload the backed up WP files to the new server
    – create a database and import the backup DB
    – make the necessary changes in the wp-config file to point to the new database/host etc.
    – don’t install, don’t run upgrade, just try to access your blog in a browser in the new location
    – if there was no domain name change, it should work
