I am using 3.4.2 with easel. I have contemplating editing the default bg tile, which I like, for one that is the same albeit edited. I want to add some graphics to the tile however I don’t want the changes to replicate like tile does. So, as I understand it, my only option is to create a main background. How will this affect the various monitor sizes and/or resolutions being used today? My understanding is that tiling the bg is the way around the various pc variables. Basically, to make it clear, I want to add some graphics (perhaps 10) to the tile. But i don’t want it to appear more than once on the entire page. How do I do this and it appear legit to all browsers?

    Thanks

  • In the admin, if you go to the background section, you can upload an image. Once you’ve uploaded the image, you can choose how to position it and if you want it to repeat
If you upload a big enough image, say 1200px wide and put it at the top and centered, then you can place it behind the main section of the site. A lot of sites do this and then fade the edges.

I would recommend that you just play with the custom background section. If you don’t like it, then you just delete the image and the default should come back.

Christine you are a busy girl lol. The one piece of info i needed (how big should the bg be). Now once I load that bg, there are controls via the cp (dashboard) that allow me to adjust the positioning? I don’t remember seeing these controls. Are they only present once a bg has been loaded? Thanks for all you do Christine. I really appreciate it. Once I get this and my author’s pages (bios) done. My site will be set and then I will only have to worry about adding readable content. You are the bomb.

Oh one other thing. Do I need to have info on the height of the bg? You say 1200 in width. Just play with that dimension?

    Regards

I think that 1200px is a good width to test out.
Once you upload the image in the Appearances > Background section, the positioning options will appear.

    Here’s a video that explains what I mean – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POmSILWFNuM
