• I would like to change my footer file in wp-content/themes/default/footer.php but there is a message below the box which says “If this file were writable you could edit it.”

How do I get the files in the template to be writeable?

  • You have to change permission on the files = chmod 666 via FTP.
Unless it’s just a minor typo I’d strongly suggest to edit the files on your computer in a text editor (AFTER making a backup copy to have it handy if anything goes wrong!!!), and upload them.
