[Plugin: Twitter Tools] No way to add sidebar tweets in template?

Using <?php aktt_sidebar_tweets(); ?> in a template used to populate a list of recent tweets. With 3.0 this doesn’t work, and the new instructions only list a shortcode. Is there still this functionality, has the php code changed?
