I’m curious, is this legal.

  • So I had a free domain, couldn’t sleep and wanted to fuck around with WP 2.0. I came up with this, the following link contains pornographic material and shouldn’t be clicked on if you are at work, or below 18:

    Now, I just pasted a pile of pics and links from a bunch of forums, and from what I can tell then there is nothing directly illegal about this. Am I wrong?

  • Technically, it’s illegal as you don’t own the copyright to those images.

    You also want to watch your language. For assistance in choosing words go here. You also want to avoid posting links to pornographic material as it simply looks like you are spamming this forum under the guise of a question.

    Viper007Bond, wouldn’t a couple of screenshots fall well and truly within fair use?

    WarAxe, sorry, but spamming a tiny board for especially interested people like this wouldn’t even be worth the effort.

    It’s not about fair use it’s about intellectual property. If you host and show someone elses pics in any way, without permission, then you’re stealing. I know lots of people do it, but if you have a site dedicated to pics then you’re risking pissing people off enough to take you to court. If you’re not hosting them yourself but you’re displaying them, that’s leeching (stealing someone’s bandwidth).

    All you have to do is email them and ask, then keep the email for reference :o)

    Some sites that have put their link on the images will have disclaimers saying that you are free to use them as long as you don’t remove the link or sell them for profit.
