Make a WP already installed in a folder accessible from root

    Sorry if the question is very basic, but I’m totally new in WP and after looking around I don’t get any clear answer ??

    I have installed WP v. 3.4.2 in a subfolder like /wp342 and it already has some contents. What do I have to do to make WP accessible via the / paths instead /wp342? I have seen a post lik

    but fex. he says “Go to the General panel. In the box for WordPress address (URL)…” but in my admin Settings > General I don’t have such field, so probably that post is for another version.

    As I have said, I already have content in the database pointing to the /wp342 folder (fex. in the table wp_posts, field quid, I see things like https://www.myhost.com/wp342/…..) . Do I have to perform a search & replace?

    The approach I was thinking was to configure the .htacces of my root folder to rewrite /wp342 to / in the request and response, but I’m not sure if WP has already a better solution.

    Version 3.4.2 should have those fields. Is it there but grayed out (so you can’t use the setting)? Or are the settings missing entirely?

    Try:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    The option is not show at all.

    Under Settings I have:
    – General
    – Writing
    – Reading
    – Discussion
    – Media
    – Privacy
    – Permlinks

    Inside Settings > General I have the following fields:
    – Site Title
    – Tagline
    – E-mail Address
    – Timezone
    – Date Format
    – Time Format
    – Week Starts On
    – Site Language

    In Plugins I have two but both are deactivated:
    – Akismet
    – Hello Dolly

    How do I switch to the default theme? Under Appearence > Themes I see:
    – Current Theme : U-Design
    – Availabe Themes : Twenty Eleven

    Try activating Twenty Eleven, the default theme.

    Is this on a WordPress Network (multisite)?

    No changes ?? I’ve activated the Twenty Eleven theme but I see the same fields. The WP only contains a site, but I don’t know if it has been configured as multisite (it’s an install done by the hosting)

    I think this is a network install. When logged in in the wp-admin do you see a link My Sites > Network Admin in the toolbar (top of the all wp-admin pages)?

    Yes I see! ??

    Now, If under “My Sites > Network Admin > Sites” I see one with path “/wp342/”, I click then on Edit and I see the tabs “Info | Users | Themes | Settings”.

    Under “Info” I see:
    – Path = /wp342/ (gray, not editable)

    Under “Setting” I see:
    – Siteurl=https://…./wp342 (gray, not editable)
    – Home=https://…../wp342 (gray, not editable)
    – Fileupload Url = https://…../wp342/wp-content/uploads (editable)

    Do you need your site to be multisite?

    how about doing it directly from the cpanel? You can include this subfolder as the domain directory and your site would open automatically based on this folder.
