    Hey everyone,

We’re having a very odd problem with some event links on our calendar. You can view the calendar here: https://treesatlanta.org/calendar/

We had one specific event (Herbert Greene Nature Preserve Invasive Removal) where if you clicked on the link for it, the URL looked to be correct but it would reroute you to the homepage. I thought maybe the permalink was too long so I cropped a word out of it and resaved the event. The link then worked.

However, I logged in to change something in the description, resaved the event, and now the permalink is broken again. Editing the slug again doesn’t fix it anymore.

So, every event link seems to work except this one. What is causing it and how can I prevent it from happening again?

We’re using the permalink structure /%category%/%postname%/ and a plugin called WP No Category Base. I tried disabling the plugin but it made no difference.

The last support threads I saw for event links rerouting to the homepage are over a year old, so I’m baffled by this. Has anyone encountered this and/or does anyone have any idea how to fix it?

    Thanks,
    Aaron

  • Hi there Aaron. Thanks for the note here, and my apologies for taking some time to get you a response here – we generally hit this forum 1x a week but we missed our pass last week and I’m just catching up now.

This is indeed an interesting issue, and not one I’ve seen discussed much…particularly over the recent months. I realize the event here has already passed, but I am still seeing the behavior there. If the No Category Base plugin wasn’t the cause of the conflict, and you didn’t ever have another page/entry on the site with this same URL structure, my only other guess is that there’s some modification in the code (ie the addition of those icons for each event type) that isn’t playing well with core.

Clicking around a bunch of your other event entries, I didn’t see this occurring anywhere else. Can you confirm whether it’s still an issue? If it only happened on that instance, we may want to treat it as a one-off until it occurs again…what are your thoughts?

Hey roblagatta, thanks for the response. I realized a little while after my last post that a colleague had activated the Redirection plugin, which does not seem to play well with The Events Calendar. I followed a tip someone else posted about disabling URL Monitoring in Redirection so hopefully that will prevent the issue from happening again. And regarding the specific event I posted about, I ended up having to delete and recreate it.

    Thanks,
    Aaron

Thanks for confirming this, Aaron. Appreciate the heads up and it sounds like you’re set for now…right? Let me know if not, otherwise I’m inclined to move this to RESOLVED for now unless you disagree.
