I created my site (johnswinburn.com) with the Twenty Ten theme. On the home page, there is a link under each post to leave comment, but when clicked it leads to the single page for that post but the page does not have a comment box. My comment settings are configured to allow anyone to comment but require the commenter to leave name and email.

When I switch to the Twenty Eleven theme, the posts show “comments are closed.” I have struggled to find issues with templates, but to no avail. Can anyone help? Thanks.

  • Check “Allow comments” in the Discussion pane on each Edit Post page. If you do not see this pane, click Screen Options at the very top of the page and check “Discussion”.

Thank you! That did it. Is there a way to make this the default setting for all new posts?

Yes. Via Settings -> Discussion and unchecking “Allow people to post comments on new articles”.
