text formatting of pages and posts

Hi all,

I created a site and as i create new pages, I realized I can not do any text formatting – or at least, when I publish it, they retain no space that i had put in the draft. Now I found myself putting in codes to hold these spaces in order to create space between the paragraphs.

How do I change the setting or CSS in order to just write a page, and where I create space in text – it also gets published that way in a page? This is a site for my mother, so she needs to just be able to type, make it look right, and then publish.

These spaces between paragraphs are made with <space> and
and such. don’t wanna use that….
