I uploaded an image for my header but it only shows in black and white. It was a gif but it changed to a jpeg. I thought jpeg was crap for the web?

I created the image in Seashore and optimised it in Choco.

How do I get colour and what format do I upload in.

I am a struggling newbie trying to set up a web site, not a blog. I know nothing about html, CSS or child themes. It’s all very difficult and not intuitive to me.

  • Try uploading the jpg image. They are fine for web use.

Thanks. I saved the image as a jpeg and it still loads in black and white. The original scan was in grey scale, and then I coloured it in using Seashore.

I also tried uploading another jpeg that is in colour. Same problem, so I don’t think the reason is Seashore, my format or that the original was grey scale.

The problem seems to be in wordpress itself. The images in the library are all grey scale.

What I do notice is that there is a box checked (I didn’t check it and I can’t uncheck it) that says ‘convert images to greyscale’. But there is text next to it that says

(Sorry, this feature is only available in the Pro Version of Auto Image Resizer.)

I don’t have Pro Version of Auto Image Resizer. It seems to be using that check box somehow.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Thanks!! It worked. I didn’t use that link you gave – too complicated for me. I just deactivated them all. I re-activated the soundcloud plug in and that works. I’ll activate the others one by one to see what happens. I’m using the gif file, I think the colour is more accurate.

The tip might be for newbies not to get too keen when adding plug ins.

(Man, this has been a frustrating road.)
