(It really is not recommended to alter theme files, as your changes will be lost in the next update. Better to use theme options, plugin, or a child theme instead.)

You mean all the stuff in the right sidebar on your site (recent posts, categories, etc)? Check out Appearance > Widgets. There are a bunch of different tools you can use, and there should be no need to edit your theme.
