• My logs are being filled by visits from poker related sites. They may be trying to leave spam comments, but I have “poker” “texas hold em” and a few other such words in my filters list, so none are showing up. Though the logs reference many different places, I think they are being produced by only one or two sources as they all start at some point in the day, then they will stop, then they will start coming again at some point the next day. It’s like some bastard is running a program for a while, shuts it off, then starts it again the next day. These seem to target the archives.
Then there are a couple other places that seem to try hit every page, and the hits come over and over until they are done (poolexperts.net and poolsmart.net).
The IP’s are not consistant, but they are all related to
gambling. Anyoen else getting hit by these? Any way to fight them?

  • i’ve exactly the same problem. SPAM comments from poker sites, specially that “texas hold em” guy! my nerves!!

    https://ioerror.us/software/bad-behavior

All other spam software only stops the comment, not the traffic.

    You’ll thank me later.

Hmm. Now that I think about it, your access log will still show all the initial requests… but they can’t crawl your whole site, so you should see less log entries.
    How about that?

I also don’t think this should be in installation…

Now they have switched to drug related sites! There appears to be one bastard out there running a script barraging my site with spam realated traffic. The hits start, then they stop, then restart the next day, and then stop. There is a definate pattern. None of there spam have seen the light of day on my site, but they are screwing up my stats, and chewing up my bandwidth!

As stated, use Bad Behavior to block most bots from accessing your site in the first place and therefore not wasting your bandwidth.

I’d also use Spam Karma 2 to nuke any manually entered spam or bots that slip through BB.

Anyoen else getting hit by these?

Every blog on the web is. ??

Yeah I get a fair amount of poker related stuff, and viagra, and pool, and casino, and phentermine etc etc.,

I post the ips and domain name in a page driven from an SQL database table. I invite hackers to have at it and kill the ips. In Germany, I believe, the law fines ’em $65,000 a spam. Over here Congress and the Admministratin must be owned by the DMA. Best we can do there is vote ’em out. The page is at https://www.creatingnewworlds.org/stopspam.cfm
