[Plugin: WordPress SEO by Yoast] Search engine title different from page title?
-
WordPress version: 3.4.1 (MultiSite) WordPress SEO version: 1.2.8.1 I did this: Customized a post title to fit/appear better in the search engines. I expected the plugin to do this: Display the post title as it appears in the search engines the same way in the title bar. Instead it did this: Displayed the post title as I had typed it, but with my blog title written twice.
I wrote up and posted a dummy post just to demonstrate, and have included screenshots as well. All my posts (which are so far in the queue) look this way for some reason (when I preview).
In the dummy post I entered, manually, “Lorem Ipsum Dolor Sit Amet – Pop Psych” and in the snippet preview, it looks exactly how it’s written on the tin. However, when I published the post, the title bar reads, “Lorem Ipsum Dolor Sit Amet – Pop PsychPop Psych” and looks awful. I can’t figure out how to fix this, and I’m sure it’s a problem I’m having with WP SEO, because I started off just disabling that one plugin, and the posts look normal.
I read there is something called a “title template.” I looked through the settings and can’t figure out where I went wrong (it was left as default), so I deleted all the template codes from the fields. Still the post titles look this way, and I am unsure of how to fix them. Is there a way to manually override the way WP SEO writes post titles so that what I write in the settings area of each individual post is how they display in the browser title bar?
Please have a look at the dummy post of my site and the screenshots I’ve included to see what’s wrong and how I can remedy this problem. I am new to self-hosted WordPress blogging, SEO, plugins, etc., and am stumbling quite a bit along the way.
