• Howdy!

So I built a really nice page for a client and the client has only paid half of our agreed-upon fee. Being the smart-ass that I am, I want to only have half the page functional/visible. What do you think? Is this possible? ?? Thanks in advance for your help!!

  • There’s probably ways to do it by using CSS to overlay a cover element over half the page.

Does the client have access to the site? By that, I mean can they get the database and files that make up the site? If they can, then you’ve done it wrong in the first place, and they can pretty much run of fwith it, and it’ll be up to you to start some sort of legal proceedings to get the rest of the money that’s owed to you.

If they don’t have access to the site, then make sure that you tell them that they will get what they have ordered form you just as soon as they pay the entire bill, and then don’t back down from them.

Of course, this all assumes that you have some sort of contract or agreement about the price of the site and what you are going to provide for that money in writing… You do have that, don’t you?

Oh yeah. I have it in writing. I have sole access to all data and servers. Dude is just trying to blackball me.

Then just withhold the site until full payment is received.

That is Plan B. I’d really love to give the client half a site though!

Wouldn’t it be better to show them the whole thing and say “this can be yours, just as soon as you pay”. Showing them half a site will make them think that you’ve only done half the site, and that’s just giving them more rason to not pay.

If you have sole control over the current site, then you have nothing to worry about. If they don’t pay the rest, they don’t get the site. There’s nothing more to it then that.

I agree with michael.mariart. Although it’s tempting to turn the tables on them in this way, it weakens your case should this ever get to legal proceedings. After all, you can’t really give them half the access to the site, now can you? How many pages are we talking about here?

Looks like we’re talking about a single page? If so, just take a screen shot, modify the image to your liking, and post the image.

I understand the rational responses. I was just looking to have a little fun. It was a wild idea that I thought would be fun to do. I know I can just render the domain blank until payment is had, but that isn’t any fun. I’ll keep this thread open in case anybody ever comes up with an idea on how to do this for future wise-asses like myself ??
