I would like to attempt tweaking my blog. So Ive installed a test blog on a local server.

Which files should I tweak to create my own theme?

  • There are plenty of articles in the Codex
    Blog_Design_and_Layout
Theme_Development – and all the related stuff.
What I’d suggest: find a theme that is pretty close (at least in basic layout) to what you’d like, save it in a different folder (mytheme) and modify the first lines of the style.css to make it functional. After that you can just start to play with the code, style etc. and it’s immediately visible on your local install.

Well you can check themes available at alexking.org or bloggingpro.com

Download a nice theme from there which suits you , and then maybe play with css to change colours , syle and maybe do more. For guide or reference you can always use codex.www.remarpro.com

The default template available Kubrick is also a nice theme to customise for your needs.

I’d would contradict KS on this: if you are new to themes, don’t even touch the default ??
