• Hello,

Is there a plug-in or code one can use to change the Post ID’s after a certain time or even an automatic renewal function?

The RSS Feed of the website, where this function would be of great use, publishes continuously posts (title / content), which are tracked by a newspaper client and its CMS system. They informed us that their system will clean now all ID’s older then 2 months, therefore we are looking for this kind of function to refresh the content on their website.

    Thank you very much,
    Best wishes

  • Changing the post ID will cause all kinds of things to break. That ID is used in numerous different ways to associate data with the post. You’d really have to collect the post data, delete the original post, then reinsert a new post. That is quite a project and would be pretty error prone.

Even if you got it working, I don’t think it would effect RSS feeds. I am a little light on experience with this subsystem but I believe the critical element for RSS feeds is the guid. I think that changing the guid will make the post look new in an RSS feed, which is I think what you want. I don’t know of a plugin to change that, but I am pretty sure it is considered ‘bad behavior’ to do so. I’d guess that you’d get ‘duplicate content’ problems with Google as well.
