• Hello,

I just got my first subscriber, and it is “adm13” E-mail: [ email redacted ]

I scoured the net to see what this might be about, and it looks like a user from india that signs up for very diverse sites, forums, blogs ranging much too far.

All I can imagine is this is some crawler type signup…. is this hunch correct? If so, is there any issue or danger in these roving signups?

    Thank you,
    Kyle

  • Most likely it is an automated or crawler registration. They are very (VERY) prevalent these days.

If you are not worried about them, delete the account. If you are concerned that it might be a real person, send them an email and ask them to respond if they are a real person and not automated. If you get a reply, it’s fine, and if you don’t delete the account.

These sort of accounts are only realyl used to try and SPAM links from your site/s by creating new articles with links in them, or to add comments to existing pages. It’s all about someone trying to get backlinks that they don’t deserve to try and boost their own SEO efforst.

I’ve exactly the same thing, a subscriber (I didn’t even know it was possible to register to my site…) used this email address and the username “adm59”. Certainly for spamming backlinks u’re right Michael

happened to me too. just after i installed a free plugin. Dont know if plugin had anything to do with it. Go to > settings > general > membership > untick it > save changes

    > settings > users > select bad user > delete > apply > delete all posts and links from this user

i dont know where the submission area is to become a user. Is there a back door or security flaw?

Same with me, I just created a website few days back and I am still in the process of working. This is the first user to register at my website whereas my website doesn’t even figure in google as of now. He seems to be link spammer.
