I’m having an issue with a recent install on WP 3.4.1 on GoDaddy and they’ve been of no help. I’ve been going back and forth with the support desk for days now and they keep blaming me and thinking its’ something I’ve done. But they won’t look into it.

Here’s the issue. I’m trying to upload a JPEG image to my site via WP-Admin. Either via the media uploader for my page or the Media–>Add New. When I upload, it seems to accept the image but doesn’t display it. If I click on Edit Image, I do see the image, but if I save it, it doesn’t take and the URL to the image just brings up a 404.

GoDaddy has suggested turning off plugins, changing themes, permissions, adding the FTP coordinates to wp-config.php. Nothing works.

I figure the WP community is much, much smarter than the GoDaddy support desk, so I’m asking you. Has anyone experienced a similar issue like this and what would you suggest I do to make this work? This really makes no sense.

  • Check your uploads path in Settings->Media. It should be blank in most installs.

Ah, it is not! The full URL path is blank but the Store Uploads in this folder is not. It is something like: /home/content/61/xxxxxx/html/xxxx/blog/wp-content/uploads

You kind of get the idea what the x’s represent.

So should I try to make the Store Uploads in the folder path blank?

Although this may not be very helpful, I have a WP site on GoDaddy and have no issues uploading images. One thing I’ve done is to NOT use the ftp capability on GoDaddy but instead to do all the media adds via WordPress. That practice has worked for every file (jpg, pdf, etc.) that I’ve uploaded.

So should I try to make the Store Uploads in the folder path blank?

    Yes – it’s worth a try.

That’s exactly what I did and now I can upload. Four days of going back and forth with GoDaddy and I found the solution in hours, if not minutes right here. Thanks to all.

    Glad we could help ??
