  • I’ve been using TheThe Image Slider on various sites now, and just discovered the same problem on every site. meta-descriptions got contaminated… This is very, very bad behaviour and I’m off to change the slider software right now.

Yes, after several failed attempts to conceal the configuration info (which is stored in HTML span tags right in the page content ?!?) from search engines I’ve just moved on to another image slider.

A note to the devs: search engine spiders ignore CSS, so display:none won’t stop GoogleBot from reading that config information as page content.

Nice plugin (I like it better than what I had to replace it with), but this is a showstopper for me.

Which other slider did you go to?

I’ve just put this slider on a clients site and (so far) we haven’t got this problem. So I’m wondering whether it was an older release that caused the issue or maybe the SEO plugins that I’ve got stopped the contamination?

It’s certainly a concern but so far my clients site is okay.

I’m pretty sure I went with vSlider. I was using the latest TheThe, and I don’t see anything in the changelog that would indicate this problem being addressed in the last weeks.

If you are using Google Webmaster Tools (highly recommended) you can see the last time your page was indexed, or even request a refresh. Unfortunately, it won’t give you a preview of your site summary in the tool.

I’ve changed to Easing Slider, but installing SEO plugin like WordPress SEO by Yoast and setting a meta description is certainly a better solution.

Whelp, somehow Google liked the config info in the span tags better than my meta description (inserting it before), so…

Look at the google link in my first post, click through on some of those sites & see that many of them have meta descriptions yet their search result site summary is still borked.
