What do you mean “to cut down on load time”? The only advantage of uploading the exact size and to use it is to have less files on the server, but other than that there is no benefit.

For example, on my websites, I need 2 sizes: a size for my photos to be displayed on my post (always 800*600) and a size for my thumbnail (I don’t know the size, but it is just small). Then I always upload an original photo of 1920*1280. WordPress automatically create my “normal” post image size, the thumbnail, and the retina plugin also creates the images for those displays. Then of course, when any kind of user wants to see the original photo (by clicking on it somewhere), he can.

That’s why I don’t really know what you mean by optimizing the images before uploading. WordPress is already optimizing the images you are uploading by creating the sizes you need (if it’s properly setup, of course).

Anyways, that said, if you use only the full size image, there is a solution. You don’t need the plugin to create the solution for you because it will never be able to create a big image based on a small image, so you can disable the “Auto Generate” in the settings, “Hide ‘Retina’ column” and “Hide Retina Dashboard”. Then you will have to create by yourself the bigger files. Let’s say you have an original image called “japan.jpg”. Create another one called “[email protected]”. And this will work, the plugin will take care of it (even though it is not written in my article).

Now, what do you think? ??

I think I’ll give it a shot. I learn something new everyday. ??

That seems to work for me. Thanks!

It works already? ?? If you think the explanation on my website or in the plugin aren’t enough, please tell me how to improve it.

I struggled to make the plugin good. But I know all the facts about Retina and the way it works are a bit fuzzy… and adding WordPress + its way to handle images make the mix even more bitter.

That said, I believe the whole WordPress system is really good, works wonderfully, and I’m glad I’m a WordPress user. If I was using another system I am not sure it would have been that easy to implement that plugin and to explain how it works ??

How you explained it in this thread made perfect sense.

Now to find out how to get Cloudflare to corporate…

    Thanks for the plugin!

    Thanks a lot Clineco ??

Please send a message to Cloudflare. I did it already but I think it required a bit more pressure… meanwhile, I disabled Cloudflare ??

Thanks. I messaged them earlier today. I’m disabling also…

Super ?? I hope they will react (last time they told me they were getting a few retina devices to try it out).
