When I change to a different theme, the changes I have made to my blog change back to default. My site name remains the same, but categories vanish, links I create vanish and default links are restored even though I deleted them.

Is it possible to change site themes for an active blog, or will I always lose all my information?

The changes you made were to the one particular theme you had activated. Changing to a new theme means just that, a new theme without the edits you made in the old one. You will either have to edit the new theme with your changes or change back to old theme which already has your changes.

Oh, and settings don’t change, just what is displayed based on the template tags used.

Thanks. Seems like something others besides myself would like to do: change the look and feel of their blogs sometime down the road.

So, I have only gotten started…will this delete my current and past postings, or will they still be displayed, but just my settings changed?

Nothing in the database is changed by changing themes – just what is displayed.

That being said, I suppose some themes could add something – like a stats counter or who’s online function; however, any theme malicious enough to delete something would be blasphemed and thoroughly trashed here.

I just installed WordPress 2.0 on my local server, and when trying to change the default header tag line it won’t save. But ever more frustrating is that I can’t get my selected theme to save, it keeps showing the default theme.

    Am I missing something?

It appears that several other changes that I have also tried to make won’t save either….
