[Plugin: SEO Facebook Comment] Fatal error: Uncaught CurlException: 6: Couldn't resolve host ap

    Like others in this forum I noticed the plugin just randomly crashed with a fatal error uncaught CurlException error after doing nothing on my end to cause it. ALL comments (facebook and WordPress) disappeared and all I see is the error message:

    Fatal error: Uncaught CurlException: 6: Couldn’t resolve host ‘api-read.facebook.com’ thrown in mywebsite.com/wp-content/plugins/seo-facebook-comments/facebook/base_facebook.php on line 825

    I’m seeing this across several sites I run using this plugin. I’m on lunarpages shared hosting but I don’t think that’s the issue since everything was working fine previously. All instances basically stopped working at the same time.

    I’m guessing facebook changed something on their end with the api and now the plugin needs to be updated?

    At any rate I’m posting here because a google search of the error simply returns pages of the MANY websites that are running this plugin and throwing the same error. I’ve yet to find anything to fix it…just pages of search results with blogs and sites experiencing the same problem.

    Can someone please help me with this? Basically it appears to be an issue with my shared hosting provider (Lunarpages) and facebook. My hosting support took over 3 weeks to get back to me and this is finally what they replied with:

    1. Sorry for the inconvenience you are experiencing. We have had this issue investigated and found that there is broken network between your server and Facebook network due to which plugin is not working properly and throwing errors. Unfortunately the issue was visible on Facebook network so there is nothing much we can do but we have contacted Facebook support to correct this issue as soon as possible. As to verify this, please check the traceroute result given below.

    2. Multiple canned responses saying they are waiting for facebook to look into the issue

    3. Several other useless suggestions they found in wordpress forums that had nothing to do with the issue.

    And Finally and most importantly:

    On a deep investigation we were able to locate the issue. Curl was actually disabled by EasyApache and Curls is working fine. The plugin script has to be modified according to use Curls instead of curl. Hope now you have a hint to contact the plugin vendor to modify plugin for normal functioning on our servers.

    I’m not sure what they mean by “Curls” I’m assuing cURL SSL?
    Is there any code I can easily add to the plug in files to tell it to NOT use cURL but “cURLS” instead?

    Hi, was there a solution to this in the end?

    Have the same problem, Fatal error: Uncaught CurlException: 60: SSL certificate problem, verify that the CA cert is OK.

    Got this error on first setup
    I’m running apache ubuntu debian version
    Have ssl on my site.

    It seems this error has something to do with creating the facebook app because I found that i was using an already created app that had been made for something else and then after i made a brand new additional facebook app, the face book comment box is now displaying.

    However I am still getting the error and my old comments from the non-facebook system are not displaying.

    Changed to the Facebook Comments plugin and that works, so will be uninstalling this one.
