• On trying to upgrade to the latest version is word press,I have now got the following error:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class Custom_Background in /hermes/waloraweb045/b1069/moo.glutenfreeathletenet/wp-admin/custom-background.php on line 16

I cannot log in to my admin page to do anything so how can I resolve this? Can I go back to the previous version in the meantime?

    Any help much appreciated.

  • Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

I can’t get onto my WordPress admin at all & I don’t see how I can do any of these things without doing do?

When I go on my domain it says I’m still on version 3.3.2 as well?!

Please re-read my post above. None of the suggestions I made require you to login to your WordPress dashboard.

    Is https://www.glutenfreeathlete.net/ your site?
I’ve got the same error when i upgrade. It was my theme, fastfood from TwoBeers Crow who generate the error and i see you got the same.
My solution was to unchecked an option called ‘custom background’.
An another option was to change the code, they wrote about this on there homepage.

Hi yes I have that same one!

How exactly did you uncheck the option?

I’ll have a look on their website for the code if I can’t do this but I’m really struggling to do anything now I can’t get on WordPress I don’t know what I’m doing!

    Thanks

To get into admin-page i upload wp3.3.2 manually and uncheck ‘custom background’ in theme option and then upgrade to 3.4 manually with no error.

    good luck

The problem they wrote about is for anather theme but it works for me.

Ok,I was just concerned when I tried to reinstall version 3.3.2 again it said something about duplicate material & overwriting files & I wasn’t sure if this meant any of my previous files/pages would be lost?! I am new to website design so don’t really know much but is there any risk of losing material I’ve done using word press by reinstalling it??
It also says I’m still on version 3.3.2, yet I’m getting that error after clicking to upgrade to 3.4…
    Thanks for your help!

You don’t need to upload wp-content.
All your text is safe in the database.

    I don’t upgrade from wp-admin, i download a zip-file and use a FTP program, Filezilla instead.
