• Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: register_http_request_failed. This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host.
    connect() timed out!

JetPack looks really cool and I was hoping to use it. My webhost has a great support team and they could not identify the problem. Kindly, can you offer insight to the more common reasons this error shows when trying to activate JetPack? Just a blatant “It’s the hosts fault” message leaves a bitter taste.

    Warm regards,

Is your site URL https://ranche.ro/ that you are setting Jetpack up on?

Hi Tim! Thanks for responding. Actually no, it’s not ranche.ro, it’s on my wifes new site https://lifeisms.com .

I see you recently changed the DNS settings for this site. How long has it been since you’ve tried connecting Jetpack? Could you try again today?

Also, do you have any cache plugins active?

I changed the nameservers on June 2nd or 3rd. I have tried pretty much every day, a few times a day. I just tried it this very moment and it’s still not working. Any thoughts on what the web host configuration is?

Do you have a firewall or any access restrictions on your server? Or does your host?

In my tests, it looks like our Jetpack servers are unable to talk to https://lifeisms.com, which is causing the problem.

Thanks! I appreciate the insight! Any chance you’ve got the IP’s or hostnames for the JetPack servers? I’ve love to get my webhost to do some more testing.

The hostname we use is jetpack.wordpress.com. There are too many IP’s across our data centers that change too often to really list those.

    Hi Tim!
So I’ve got my webhost to take another look. Here is what they did:
They tried to install it with and without cURL.
They installed a plugin called core control and it was able to generate the errors both with and without cURL enabled.

Without cURL this is the error: “http_request_failed Could not open handle for fopen() to https://jetpack.wordpress.com/jetpack.register/1/”
They opened port 443 on my server because the plugin tries to connect to https:// and still get the error.

With cURL enabled, this is the error: “http_request_failed connect() timed out!”

I hope this info is helpful and takes us one step closer to a solution.
    Have a great weekend!

i have the same error message, is it because I install and manage wordpress in my computer on ‘localhost’? I’d appreciate your answer. Thanks.

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

@unitych If you need to use Jetpack in your local environment, you will need to install the development version of Jetpack, as explained here:
