Issue moving from subdirectory to root

Hello! I just created my first site with WP and was ready to move it to the root. I followed the directions at “Moving_WordPress_Within_Your_Site” and ran into trouble at step 9. After moving the files, I could no longer log-in to continue the following steps. I tried using my “old” log-in url as well as what would commonsense be the new. At this point the (front end) homepage was visible although there were a few issues (which I didn’t investigate because I was just trying to make it through this process!). So, I deleted all my files and re uploaded my back up within a folder that had the same sub-directory name I started with. Now, when I go to log-in, the log-in page does not look normal (old html looking) and after entering password I get a 404 and 403 error. On the site itself, when I go to the url I get a 404 error (page has header image but rest looks html, page links not working). Any help you can provide would be appreciated…I’ll keep searching the forums while I wait ??
