• Hi,

I have two WordPress blogs in the same hosting package.

When uploading an image, WordPress uploads it in many different sizes, 7 in total but I only use the full-image size. The problem is I usually write posts where I upload many images. For example, the last post I wrote included 27. If multiplied by 7 I get a total of 189 files uploaded to my server instead of 27. If I multiply by 7 every time I post something I get many pictures uploaded that I’m not using.

I use Dreamweaver and I’m able to erase the images I don’t use via ftp. The problem is I’m afraid of doing this because I don’t know if they are needed somehow. I suppose they don’t but I really would like to be completely sure before deleting anything.

Additionally, is there any way using the preferences panel of setting how many images I want to be uploaded? for example just the full size one?

Thanks in advance for your help,
    Carolina

    They are used.

WordPress, by default, uploads up to four copies of your image. Your theme may upload more. The image ‘sizes’ are:

    Thumbnail
    Medium
    Large
    Full

These depend on your media settings. You can go to General Settings -> Media to tweak them.

    Thanks!

I already did that. But is there anyway of setting it to upload only one size?
If not, can I erase the ones I don’t use via ftp?

If you set your images to the ‘large’ size when you upload (like mine is 600×400), then it’ll only make three per. You can’t set it to just do one, though.

It’s usually not a problem, though. Disk space isn’t the premium it once was.

yes, I understand that and I agree with you, the problem I have is that I don’t get only 3 different sizes, I get 12 sizes uploaded in one blog and 7 on the other one. Is a lot of unnecessary files that occupied inodes of my plan. I really would like to know if it is possible to delete them somehow. In the media settings it doesn’t give me any information about all this sizes:

    140×170
    140×94
    150×150
    184×184
    207×136
    212×213
    260×170
    260×315
    300×160
    430×283
    430×320
    500×320

Hi, did you ever get an answer concerning this problem?
