Using non-WordPress homepage to front site

I’ve discovered the theme I am using (Hatch) doesn’t function correctly with static home page set. The design is simple and clean and relatively easy to replicate in HTML. Can I create my own homepaage and link it through to the WordPress pages that I created using this theme?

If so, where do I set that own-created page to be my homepage in the admin panel? I tried creating a page, uploading to my host via ftp and then navigating to it but it always defaults to the WordPress home. Any help appreciated.
