Users cannot edit posts

  • Having completed the development of a new WordPress build, multiple users are currently populating content to go-live, however overnight it seems that users other than the root administrator cannot edit any posts.

    It’s not a case that post edits do not save, as I see other people have reported, as users cannot get to the edit screen at all. Within the admin toolbar and in the post list, the ‘Edit’ link simply does not appear and the post title is plain text rather than the usual link.

    Things I have tried, none of which has not made a difference:

    • De-activating all plugins
    • Switching to WordPress’ default theme
    • Re-uploading the WordPress core files
    • Repairing the database using the WordPress interface
    • Repairing the database using phpMyAdmin
    • Increasing the memory limit

    I have narrowed down the problem to the database as locally the issue was not occurring, until I copied down the database and now I have the same issue locally.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks for the suggestion, but the most recent database backup is a few days old and we would therefore lose a lot of content that has been added over that time.

    My guess is that you have a damaged database. You could try repairing all of the tables to see if that will help but, if it doesn’t, you may have to bite the bullet on this one. ??
